ABOUT NEVIS

Nevis, located in the northeastern chain of the Caribbean islands in the Lesser Antilles, still maintains its original charm. This 36-square-mile island is about 200 miles south of Puerto Rico, and just west of Antigua. This island jewel is approximately 7 miles long and 5 miles wide, with natural vegetation that is unparalleled. With a population of approximately 11,200 Nevisians are a charming group of people who would steal your heart.

Its shores are bathed with the cool, azure blue waters of the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. As you breathe the fresh air you can inhale the natural scents of the flora and fauna around you. You can enjoy a carefree life where no one seems to be in a hurry. So are you longing for peace and serenity, natural beauty, paradise on planet earth? Why not visit our lovely 36 square mile island dubbed the “Queen of the Caribbean”?  Yes, Nevis beckons to the tired stressed out and weary traveler. You can relax on the beach or enjoy a hot relaxing bath at the Bath Springs. Either choice will leave you rejuvenated and wishing that you could stay on the island forever.

Historically, Nevis has been home to different racial and ethnic groups. Among the earliest were the Caribs and the Arawaks who inhabited the islands before the coming of Christopher Columbus. The British, French, Spanish and Dutch engaged in wars over this gem of an island. Finally, the British conquered and St. Kitts/Nevis remained a colony of Great Britain until September 19, 1983 when it gained political independence. Since independence Nevis has grown into one of the safest most stable islands in the Caribbean community.

Economically, over the centuries Nevis has produced crops like tobacco, sugarcane, and cotton for export. With improved technology and better production methods, sugarcane production came to an end. A number of hotels on the island however, are built on what were once plantations. For example, among them are Nesbit Plantation Inn, Montpelier Hotel, and Old Manor Hotel. Presently, tourism is the mainstay of the economy and Nevis can boasts that it is home to many fine hotels that provide Class A service. The Four Seasons Hotel is the only five star, five diamond hotel in the Caribbean. The historical Hermitage, Mount Nevis Hotel, Montpelier and Nisbet plantations, are among the many more great places to stay while on the island. There is also a wide array of guest houses and rental villas that can also cater to you needs.
